A DNA-technology-based cellular assay used to measure specific biological activity in a wheatgrass extract.

Wheatgrass sprout extract was tested for its ability to induce fetal hemoglobin (HbF) production using advanced DNA technology . There was a rapid 3-5 fold increase which was "significantly greater than any of the pharmaceutical inducers available". The use of wheatgrass extract may eventually result in an improved quality of life for thalassemics.
